Slip Dress Construction Options
Slip dresses can be developed around different fabrics, lengths and constructions. Some styles use a simple straight silhouette, while others require bias cutting, cowl draping, lace details or an open back. Bias-cut styles need particular attention during pattern making and fabric cutting because the fabric can shift or stretch during production.
Common slip dress styles produced in the factory include:
- Silk Slip Dress
- Satin Slip Dress
- Cowl Neck Slip Dress
- Bias Cut Slip Dress
- Maxi Slip Dress
- Midi Slip Dress
- Mini Slip Dress
- Lace Trim Slip Dress
- Spaghetti Strap Slip Dress
- Backless Slip Dress
- Bodycon Slip Dress
- Evening Slip Dress
The same production setup can also be used for related dress styles when you are building a larger collection.

Slip Dress Customization Options
Slip dress construction can be adjusted to match your existing design or collection requirements.
| Area | Custom Options |
|---|---|
| Neckline | Cowl, V-Neck, Square, Straight |
| Strap | Spaghetti, Adjustable, Wide |
| Length | Mini, Midi, Maxi |
| Silhouette | Slim, Bodycon, A-Line |

| Details | Lace, Ruching, Draping, Pleats |
| Lining | Unlined, Polyester, Silk |
| Branding | Woven Label, Printed Label, Care Label |

For a collection with several styles, some production details can be kept consistent while the fabric, length, neckline, trims, or back construction are changed for each style.
Slip Dress Production From Sampling to Bulk
Once the sample and fabric are approved, the production version is released for bulk cutting and sewing. The approved sample and measurement specifications stay with the order as the reference during production.
As a clothing manufacturer, Xiuyu Apparel handles the main production stages in the factory, from pattern making and cutting through sewing, finishing and inspection. Quality checks are made during sewing and again before packing to catch measurement, construction and finishing issues before the garments leave the factory.
- Factory-direct clothing production
- MOQ usually starts at 50–100 pcs per style/color
- Sample development normally takes 3–7 days
- Bulk production usually takes 25–30 days after approval
- Fabric sourcing available
- Private label and custom packaging available
- In-line and final garment inspection

How to Start a Custom Slip Dress Order
You can send your existing design in the format that is most convenient for you. A complete tech pack is helpful, but it is not always necessary to begin a development discussion.
Your starting information can include:
- Tech Pack
- Fashion Sketch
- Reference Sample
- Measurements
- Fabric Specification
- Color Reference
- Trim Details
- Label Requirements
- Packaging Requirements
The first sample is made from the agreed measurements, construction, fabric and design details. If the fit is not right, the pattern is adjusted and another sample is made before bulk cutting starts.
For buyers who need broader production support, you can also work with an OEM clothing manufacturer for development based on your own designs, specifications, and approved samples.
Our Slip Dress Factory
Xiuyu Apparel operates a 5,000㎡ garment factory established in 2007, with 500+ sewing machines, 5 automated cutting lines and 750+ workers. Pattern making, cutting, sewing, finishing and inspection are carried out within the factory. Monthly production capacity is around 150,000 pieces.
Production is scheduled after the sample, fabric and order quantity are confirmed. Styles with more complicated construction, such as bias-cut or lined slip dresses, are planned differently from simple styles.
Fabrics for Slip Dress Production
Fabric choice has a direct effect on how a slip dress hangs and fits. Satin may look similar to silk at first, but the two fabrics behave differently during cutting and sewing. Lightweight chiffon may also require different lining and sewing treatment.
Silk
- Mulberry Silk
- Silk Satin
- Silk Chiffon
- Silk Blend
Satin & Synthetic Fabrics
- Polyester Satin
- Charmeuse
- Crepe Satin
- Stretch Satin
Other Options
- Viscose
- Rayon
- Chiffon
- Lace
- Recycled Fabrics
Before the final sample is approved, fabric options can be compared by weight, drape, stretch, opacity, hand feel, color availability, and cost.
Quality Control During Slip Dress Production
Quality checks are made at different stages rather than waiting until the order is finished.
Fabric Inspection → Cutting Check → Sewing Check → Measurement Check → Finishing Inspection → Final Inspection
Fabric is checked before cutting. During sewing, measurements, seams, construction, and workmanship are checked on the line. Finished garments are inspected for loose threads, stains, construction problems, measurement differences, and overall appearance before packing.
If an issue is found during production, it can be corrected while the order is still on the line instead of waiting until the final inspection.
Our Slip Dress Manufacturing Advantages
Our QC team follows each order through the production process, starting from fabric inspection and sample confirmation to sewing, finishing, and final inspection. During production, we check key details including fabric quality, measurements, stitching, construction, finishing, labels, and packing.
If any issue is found during sewing or finishing, our QC team works with the production line to review and correct it before the garments move to the next stage. Before shipment, finished dresses are checked again against the approved sample and order specifications.
Our MOQ starts from around 50 pieces per style, depending on the fabric, design details, and production requirements. This allows smaller brands to develop new styles and test the market without committing to large quantities from the beginning.
We work with startups, independent designers, and established brands. Before production starts, we confirm the fabric, colors, size range, labels, and other specifications to make sure everything is clear. For styles with good sales performance, we can support repeat orders with adjusted quantities based on your actual demand.
With over 18 years of garment manufacturing experience, we support brands from initial sampling through bulk production. You can share your tech pack, design sketch, reference garment, photo, or even an early-stage idea with our team.
Based on your requirements, we help with fabric selection, pattern development, sample making, and production adjustments. Before production starts, we review the specifications and sample details together to make sure the final garments follow the approved version.
We source fabrics based on the style, construction, quantity, and target cost of each order. Our team helps review different fabric options and selects materials that match the garment’s design, fit, and production requirements.
If you need a specific color, fabric weight, composition, or finish, we work with our fabric suppliers to confirm the details and arrange samples before production. Once the fabric arrives at our factory, we check the rolls for color consistency, width, surface condition, and any visible defects before cutting.

The workshop photos below show the main steps involved in our dress production, from fabric preparation and cutting to sewing, inspection, and packing.
Inside Our Manufacturing Workshop

 Fabric Warehouse
Before entering production, every fabric roll is labeled, checked, and recorded by our team. We track fabric details through batch records to help avoid material issues and ensure smooth custom clothing manufacturing from sampling to bulk production. The fabric team records incoming materials before production scheduling begins.
↓

Fabric Inspection
Before cutting starts, every fabric roll is inspected by our QC team through the Four-Point Fabric Inspection System. We check fabric condition, shade variation, and surface defects to identify material issues early and avoid problems during bulk OEM & ODM production. This step is especially important for fabrics with satin, silk, or delicate surfaces, where small defects can affect the final appearance of the garment.
↓

Fabric Pre-shrinking
After fabric inspection, selected fabrics go through a pre-shrinking process before cutting. This helps control shrinkage after washing and improves measurement consistency across bulk garment production.
↓

Automatic Cutting
Our automated cutting machines help maintain accurate pattern cutting and consistent panel shapes across bulk production. By reducing cutting errors and improving fabric usage, we support stable OEM & ODM garment manufacturing.
↓

Bulk production Sewing
Skilled sewing operators assemble garments based on approved samples and production requirements. Regular checks on stitching and construction details help maintain consistent workmanship throughout OEM & ODM production.
↓

In-line Inspection
During production, our QC team checks stitching quality, garment measurements, and construction details at different stages. Any issues found are reviewed and corrected promptly to maintain consistent quality across OEM & ODM bulk orders.
↓

In-line Pressing
After sewing, garments go through in-line pressing to shape panels, refine seam details, and remove wrinkles before the next inspection stage. Careful pressing helps improve the final look and maintain stable quality during bulk manufacturing.
↓

Final Pressing
Before packing, finished garments are pressed one last time to smooth seams, shape key areas, and improve the final look. After pressing, the team checks garment details before shipment.
↓

Final Inspection
Before loading, our QC team inspects finished garments for size, stitching quality, appearance, labels, and packing condition. After final checks are completed, orders are prepared for shipment.
↓

Garment Packing
After inspection, finished garments are folded and packed by our team following each order’s packing requirements. Labels, tags, barcodes, and packaging details are checked before cartons are prepared for shipment.
↓

Finished Products
Finished garments are arranged by style, color, and size before shipment. Our team reviews quantities, labels, and packaging details to confirm the order matches the approved requirements before dispatch.
↓

Container Loading
After packing is completed, our warehouse team loads cartons into containers and checks the stacking order before shipment. Proper carton placement helps prevent damage and keeps orders in good condition during transportation.

You can start with a tech pack, sketch, measurements, reference sample, or fabric specification. If some details are missing, the development discussion can identify what is needed before sampling. The more complete the measurements and construction information, the fewer adjustments are usually needed later.
Yes. A reference garment can be used to study measurements, construction, proportions, and finishing details. A production pattern is then developed from the sample, followed by a new sample for approval. The reference garment itself is not automatically treated as the final production standard.
Silk and satin require more attention during cutting, sewing, and pressing because the fabric can shift, mark, or show surface defects easily. Fabric is checked before cutting, and production workmanship and pressing are monitored during manufacturing to reduce avoidable finishing problems.
Yes. You can provide your label files, care information, hangtag details, barcode requirements, and packaging instructions. These specifications should be confirmed before bulk production so the labeling and packing process follows the same approved requirements as the garment itself.
A standard sample usually takes around 3–7 days when the required fabric is available and the construction is straightforward. More complicated styles or fabrics can take longer, particularly when several fitting changes or special trims are involved.
Yes. A sketch, measurements, reference sample, or clear product description can be used as a starting point. The missing construction details can then be clarified during development. However, final bulk production should always be based on an approved sample and confirmed specifications.
