Our Short Dress Manufacturing Experience
We have been making dresses in our own factory since 2007.
Pattern making, sampling, cutting, sewing, finishing and QC are handled within our own production setup. The factory has 750+ workers, 500+ sewing machines, 5 automatic cutting lines and a 5,000㎡ production facility.
For a short dress, small changes in length, waist position, neckline or skirt shape can noticeably change the overall proportion and fit. Because pattern making and production are handled within the same factory, these adjustments can be made during sampling before the bulk order starts.
We work from tech packs, sketches, reference photos, existing garments and physical samples.
If this is a first production run, one style can go through sampling and fit correction before you commit to the bulk order. The approved sample is then used as the production reference.
Our Short Dress Manufacturing Capabilities
Short dress development is not only about the finished length. During sampling, we also check the waist position, neckline, skirt shape, fabric drape and hem finish.
Fabric weight and stretch also affect fit, particularly on fitted styles and dresses with a defined waist.
- Sample Development: 3–7 Days
- Bulk Production: 25–30 Days After Approval
- MOQ: Usually 50–100 pcs per style/color

A starting range could include:
- One fitted style
- One A-line style
- One occasion style
- One casual style
Our usual MOQ is 50–100 pcs per style/color, allowing smaller brands to test selected styles before moving into larger production quantities.

Private Label Short Dress Manufacturing
For a private label collection, the dress itself is only one part of the finished product.
You can add:
- Woven brand labels
- Printed labels
- Size labels
- Care labels
- Hangtags
- Barcodes
- Custom polybags
- Custom cartons
- Branded packaging
You can also provide your own packaging specifications if your products need to meet a retailer or marketplace requirement.
For new brands, it is useful to confirm branding materials before bulk production. Labels, hangtags, and packaging often need to be ordered and prepared before the finished garments reach the packing stage.

Keeping Short Dress Development and Bulk Production Connected
For a short dress collection, pattern and sample development can have a direct effect on the final production result.
The approved pattern and sample stay with the same production team through bulk manufacturing.
The production flow is:
Design → Pattern → Sample → Fit Correction → PP Sample → Bulk Cutting → Sewing → QC
This is especially important for fitted, structured or detail-heavy short dresses.
Short Dress Manufacturing Process
1. Quotation
Send your tech pack, sketch, reference garment, sample, or initial design information. We review the requirements and provide a production quotation.
2. Pattern Development
Our pattern team develops the initial pattern according to your measurements, construction details, and target silhouette.
3. Sample Development
The first sample is produced for you to review the overall shape, construction, fabric behavior, and measurements.
4. Fit Correction
If measurements or construction need adjustment, corrections are made before the production version is confirmed.
5. PP Sample Approval
The approved pre-production sample becomes the reference for bulk manufacturing.
6. Bulk Cutting
Fabric is prepared and cut according to the approved production pattern and specifications.
7. Bulk Sewing
The production team follows the approved sample and construction requirements during sewing.

Fabrics for Custom Short Dress Production
The same short dress pattern can behave very differently when you change the fabric. Before sampling, we look at weight, stretch, drape, shrinkage, opacity, surface finish, and pressing requirements.
| Fabric | Common Short Dress Styles | What We Check |
|---|---|---|
| Satin | Slip, cowl, party, fitted | Drape, seam appearance, pressing |
| Chiffon | A-line, ruffle, layered | Lining, gathering, seam handling |
| Linen | Casual, shirt, A-line | Shrinkage, pressing, slubs |
| Cotton | Casual, shirt, skater | Shrinkage, wash, construction |
| Jersey | Bodycon, fitted | Stretch and recovery |
| Crepe | Bodycon, sheath, occasion | Drape, fit, seam appearance |
| Lace | Occasion, party, fitted | Lining and lace placement |
| Sequin | Party, evening | Embellishment and seam handling |
If you already have a fabric specification or swatch, send it with the design information. If you do not have a confirmed fabric yet, we can source options based on the required weight, hand feel, stretch, drape, and target price.
Inside Our Short Dress Manufacturing Factory
Here are the main production stages inside our factory.

 Fabric Warehouse
Fabric rolls are recorded and organized before production. This is particularly useful when one short dress style is produced in several colors or repeated in later orders.
↓

Fabric Inspection
Our QC team checks fabric condition, color, width and visible defects before cutting.
For satin, silk and other fabrics with visible surface problems, early inspection can prevent material issues from reaching the finished garment.
↓

Fabric Pre-shrinking
Where required, fabric is pre-shrunk or stabilized before cutting to help control dimensional changes.
↓

Automatic Cutting
Approved patterns are sent to the computerized cutting system. Pattern pieces are checked against the approved marker before bulk cutting.
↓

Bulk Production Sewing
Cut panels are assembled according to the approved sample.
For fitted short dresses, key areas such as side seams, waist seams, zippers and skirt panels receive particular attention during sewing.
↓

In-line Inspection
QC checks measurements and construction at key production stages. Any issues can then be corrected before the order moves further through production.
↓

In-line Pressing
Garments are pressed during production where required to control shape and remove wrinkles.
↓

Final Pressing
Finished garments receive final pressing before inspection.
↓

Final Inspection
Finished dresses are checked against the approved sample and production specifications, including measurements, stitching, appearance, labels and trims.
↓

Garment Packing
Approved garments are folded and packed according to your requirements. Labels, barcodes, polybags and carton information are checked before shipment.
↓

Finished Products
Finished garments are checked by style, color and size. Carton quantities, labels and packing details are verified before loading.
↓

Container Loading
After packing, our warehouse team loads the cartons into containers according to the shipping plan. Carton arrangement and stacking are checked during loading to keep the cartons stable during transport.

Cutting Room & Fabric warehouse
As a custom dress manufacturer, we handle the main production steps in-house, from pattern making and sampling through cutting, sewing, finishing, and final inspection. Our team works from your tech pack, sample, sketch, or reference and checks the details before the style moves into bulk production.
Keeping these stages with one production team makes it easier to deal with pattern changes, sample revisions, and construction issues before cutting starts. We can also arrange screen printing and custom embroidery when these details are part of the design.

What Affects the Cost of a Short Dress?
Short dresses can have very different factory costs even when the finished length is similar. Fabric choice, construction, trims and the amount of sewing work all affect the quotation.
Fabric Consumption
A simple short dress may use less fabric than a long style, but a full skirt, gathered sections, matching prints or multiple layers can increase fabric consumption.
Pattern and Sewing
Fitted bodices, shaped seams, pleats, gathers, draping and structured sections can add pattern development and sewing operations.
Lining
A fully lined short dress requires additional fabric and sewing time. Lining is also important for styles made from lightweight, sheer or structured fabrics.
Embellishment
Beading, embroidery, appliqué, sequins and decorative trims can add handling time and labor, even on a relatively simple short dress silhouette.
Fabric Characteristics
Fabric width, weight, stretch, recovery, drape and cutting behavior can affect both material consumption and production difficulty.
Order Quantity
Larger quantities can improve production efficiency, while fabric MOQ, color count and the number of styles in the order can still affect the final calculation.
If you have a target price, send it together with your design and expected quantity. It gives the factory a useful reference when reviewing the main cost drivers before sampling.
Short Dress Production Considerations
Hem Length and Proportion
A small change in hem length can change the balance of a short dress. During pattern development, we check the relationship between body length, waist position, skirt shape, and finished hem.
This becomes particularly noticeable when you are developing several sizes or several short dress silhouettes for one collection.
Fitted Styles Need More Fit Control
Bodycon, corset, sheath, and ruched styles expose fit problems more easily than loose dresses.
Your sample should be checked around:
- Bust
- Waist
- Hip
- Armhole
- Neckline
- Center front
- Center back
- Finished length
Fit correction is completed before the PP sample is approved for bulk production.
Strapless and Open-Back Construction
Strapless and backless dresses often require additional support inside the garment. Elastic, boning, lining, cups, straps, or other components may need to work together.
The pattern, support and internal construction all need to work together so the dress keeps its intended shape during wear.
Lightweight Fabrics
Chiffon, satin, and other lightweight fabrics can show puckering, uneven seams, or pressing marks more easily.
For these styles, fabric inspection, cutting accuracy, sewing tension, lining construction, and pressing all matter before the finished dress reaches final inspection.
Short Dress Quality Control
Production is checked against the approved sample and measurement specifications from cutting through final inspection.
Fabric Inspection
We check fabric for visible defects, shade consistency, weight, shrinkage, and other requirements relevant to the selected material.
Cutting
The cutting team follows the approved pattern and fabric direction. Printed, striped, checked, directional, or patterned fabrics need additional attention during marker planning and cutting.
Sewing
In-line checks focus on:
- Seam quality
- Stitching
- Necklines
- Straps
- Zippers
- Pockets
- Lining
- Decorative details
Fit and Measurements
The finished garment is checked against the approved measurement specifications.
For fitted short dresses, bust, waist, hip, length, neckline, and armhole measurements receive particular attention.
Final Inspection
Before packing, finished garments are checked against the approved sample and production requirements.
The PP sample provides a physical reference for construction, measurements, workmanship, and finishing.
Develop Your Short Dress Collection With Our Factory
If you already have a tech pack, sketch, reference garment, fabric swatch, or early collection idea, send it to us.
We can first review the construction, fabric requirements, sampling needs and expected quantity before you move to bulk production.
Pattern Development → Sample → Fit Correction → PP Approval → Bulk Production → QC → Packing
Our MOQ is usually 50–100 pieces per style/color. If you are testing a new collection, you can start with selected styles rather than spreading a small order across too many variations. We can confirm the practical quantity after reviewing your designs and fabric requirements.
Yes. A tech pack is helpful, but it is not the only starting point. You can send a sketch, reference image, existing garment, physical sample, or early design concept. Our pattern team can review the construction and identify the measurements or details that need clarification before sampling.
Fit is checked during sample development rather than only at final inspection. We look at key measurements such as bust, waist, hip, armhole, neckline, and finished length. If the first sample does not match your intended fit, corrections are made before PP approval.
A tech pack is the easiest starting point, but you can also send sketches, reference photos, sample garments, fabric information, estimated quantity, size range, and target price. The more of these details you provide, the easier it is to review construction and give you a useful quotation.
tandard sample development is usually 3–7 days after the required design information and fabric are available. Styles with corset construction, heavy embellishment, complicated ruching, or other detailed workmanship may need more development work, which we confirm during the quotation stage.
Yes. Private label orders can include woven or printed neck labels, size and care labels, hangtags, barcodes, polybags, cartons, and custom packaging. It is better to confirm these requirements before bulk production so the branding materials can be prepared alongside the garment order.
The approved sample, measurement specifications, fabric, trims, and construction details are confirmed before bulk production. During sewing, in-line QC checks key production points. The finished garments are then checked again before packing rather than relying only on the initial sample approval.
