Why Work With a Direct Clothing Manufacturer for Linen Dresses?
When a dress moves between different suppliers for pattern making, sampling and bulk production, small changes can easily get lost between stages. Keeping pattern making, sampling and bulk production with the same team makes it easier to carry approved measurements and construction details into production.
You can communicate your design directly, review samples before bulk production and make pattern or construction changes while the style is still in development.
Our factory handles pattern making, sampling, fabric sourcing, cutting, sewing, finishing, QC and packing in-house. The bulk team then works from the approved sample, pattern and production specifications used during development.
As a dress manufacturer, we also produce other dress categories. If your collection includes several fabric types or silhouettes, you can develop them through the same production system rather than coordinating multiple unrelated suppliers.

Linen dresses can be simple in construction, but the fabric still affects cutting, fitting and finishing. Shrinkage, fabric weight, opacity, pressing and seam construction should be considered before bulk cutting.
When you develop a custom linen dress with us, you can provide your own:
- Tech pack or design sketch
- Reference images
- Existing garment or sample
- Fabric specification
- Measurement chart
- Color or Pantone reference
- Label and packaging requirements
You do not need to start with a finished tech pack. If you are still developing the collection, you can send the reference material you already have and our pattern and sampling teams can review the construction before making the first sample.

Fabric Options for Custom Linen Dresses
The linen fabric you choose can change the final appearance and production requirements of the dress. A lightweight fabric may create a soft, relaxed silhouette, while a heavier fabric can give the garment more body.
Linen
Pure linen has a dry hand feel and natural texture, but weight and finishing can vary considerably between fabrics. We normally confirm the fabric quality against the sample before using it for bulk production.
Linen/Cotton Blends
Linen/cotton blends are often chosen when a brand wants the look of linen with a slightly softer or more stable feel. The blend ratio and fabric weight still need to match the intended silhouette.
Linen/Viscose Blends
Linen/viscose usually has a softer, more fluid drape than many pure linen fabrics. It can suit relaxed dresses where movement is more important than a structured shape.
Other Linen Blends
If you already have a required composition, fabric weight or target price, send us the specification. We can source options for sampling rather than choosing the fabric from the composition alone.
Popular Linen Dress Styles We Can Customize
Your collection may need several silhouettes rather than one standard linen dress. We can develop different styles according to your target market, fabric and construction requirements.

Linen Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses use more fabric, so proportion becomes easier to notice. Finished length, waist position and skirt drape need to be reviewed on the first sample, especially when using softer linen that can change the way the skirt falls.

Linen Midi Dress
A midi dress can look quite different when the length or waist sits slightly off. Skirt volume and finished length are reviewed on the sample itself, rather than relying entirely on the measurements provided at the start.

Linen Mini Dress
With a mini dress, a small measurement difference can change the overall look. Finished length, neckline, armhole shape and hem balance are reviewed on the sample before the pattern is released for bulk cutting.

Linen Slip Dress
Slip dresses show fabric behavior quite clearly, especially in lightweight linen or linen blends. Strap width, neckline shape, side seams and hem finishing all affect how the garment hangs, so these details are reviewed on the sample before production.

Linen Shirt Dress
Shirt dresses involve more separate components, including the collar, placket, cuffs and belt. During sampling, these parts need to line up correctly, particularly around the collar, buttons and sleeve attachment.

Linen Wrap Dress
The wrap position needs to stay stable across different sizes. The front overlap, waist placement and tie length are reviewed on the sample, as small changes here can affect coverage and how the dress sits when worn.

Linen A-Line Dress
The skirt shape of an A-line dress changes with fabric weight and drape. The balance between the fitted upper section and skirt opening is reviewed on the sample, then the pattern can be adjusted if the fabric does not fall as expected.

Linen Halter Dress
With a halter dress, small changes around the neckline can affect the whole fit. Neckline placement, armhole shape and support are checked on the sample before the production pattern is finalized.
Private Label Linen Dress Manufacturing Services
Private label customers can customize not only the linen dress design but also the fabric, branding, sizing, and packaging details.
Xiuyu Apparel supports private label linen dress production with:
- Custom woven labels
- Care labels
- Hangtags
- Barcode labels
- Custom packaging solutions
- Linen and linen-blend fabric selection
- Custom colors
- Size grading
Brands can also adjust details such as dress length, neckline, sleeve shape, lining, and fit to suit their collection. You can then develop the linen dress range with your own branding, sizing, fabric specifications and packaging requirements.

What Makes Linen Dresses Different for Manufacturing?
Linen behaves differently from fabrics with more stretch or a smoother surface. The fabric may shrink during processing, show its natural texture more clearly, and react differently to pressing. These details can affect both the sample and the bulk production result.
When reviewing a new linen dress, our team looks at:
- Fabric composition and weight
- Shrinkage after washing or treatment
- Fabric width and usable cutting area
- Opacity for light colors
- Seam and hem construction
- Lining requirements
- Fit after fabric treatment
A lightweight linen dress, for example, may need more attention to opacity and lining, while a heavier linen blend may need different seam and pressing treatment. For new styles, we prefer to check the fabric with the intended construction before bulk cutting. A fabric that looks suitable on the roll may behave differently once it is cut and sewn into the garment.
What Affects Linen Dress Manufacturing Cost?
When we quote a linen dress, fabric price is only one part of the calculation. Fabric width, consumption, construction, trims and order quantity can all change the final unit cost.
Key cost factors include:
- Fabric composition and weight
- Fabric width and consumption
- Dress length and silhouette
- Pattern complexity and grading
- Lining and inner construction
- Pockets, pleats, gathers and other details
- Zippers, buttons and other trims
- Printing, embroidery or garment washing
- Order quantity
- Labels, packaging and finishing
Linen fabric behavior needs to be considered during pattern making and production. A lightweight linen summer dress may use less fabric and require simpler construction, while a lined linen maxi dress with pleats, pockets or a more structured shape can involve additional fabric, sewing and finishing work. Shrinkage is also checked before bulk cutting so the finished measurements remain closer to the approved sample.

How to Start a Custom Linen Dress Order
You can start with a tech pack, sketch, reference garment or even an early linen dress concept. Along with the design, any available information on fabric composition, weight, color, sizing, construction, labels and packaging will help our team assess the project before sampling.
During sampling, the fabric and finished measurements are reviewed together. Linen and linen-blend fabrics can behave differently after washing, pressing or sewing, so the pattern may need adjustment before the PP sample is approved for bulk production.
If your collection includes styles beyond linen dresses, Xiuyu Apparel also works as a clothing manufacturer for broader womenswear production.
From Linen Dress Sample to Bulk Production
For a new linen style, production planning starts with the design and fabric review.
Design Review and Production Evaluation
Before sampling, our team checks the construction, measurements, fabric requirements and any details that may affect production.
For linen dresses, we pay particular attention to fabric weight, shrinkage, lining, seam construction and the relationship between the fabric and the intended silhouette.
Pattern Development and Sample Making
The pattern team develops the initial pattern based on your measurements and design.
During the first sample, you can review:
- Overall silhouette
- Garment measurements
- Neckline
- Armhole
- Waist position
- Skirt volume
- Finished length
- Fabric drape
- Lining
- Construction details
Sample development usually takes around 3–7 days. More detailed construction or fabric sourcing can affect the timing.
PP Sample Approval
Before bulk production starts, you confirm the approved PP sample.
Once approved, the PP sample becomes the production reference for:
- Fabric
- Measurements
- Construction
- Color
- Labels
- Finishing
- Packaging
Bulk production then follows these confirmed specifications.
Bulk Manufacturing and Quality Control
During production, your dresses go through:
- Fabric inspection
- Fabric preparation or pre-shrinking where required
- Automatic cutting
- Sewing
- In-line quality checks
- Pressing
- Final inspection
- Packing
The production team checks the bulk garments against the approved sample and specifications rather than treating the sample as a general reference only.
What We Check When Developing Linen Dresses
The fabric itself is only one part of the development process. Before a linen dress moves into bulk production, several details need to be checked together.
Fabric Weight
A lightweight linen may suit a loose summer dress but feel too thin for a structured style. Fabric weight is considered together with the silhouette, lining and construction rather than on its own.
Shrinkage
Shrinkage needs to be confirmed before bulk cutting. Where pre-shrinking is required, the fabric should be treated before the production pattern is used.
Opacity
Light-colored linen can become more transparent at lighter weights. If lining is required, its effect on drape, fit and finished appearance should be checked during sampling.
Natural Texture
Slubs and small variations are common characteristics of linen. Fabric inspection still needs to separate normal texture from actual weaving defects, stains or shade variation.
Pressing
Linen creases easily, but heavy pressing can flatten the fabric’s natural surface. Temperature, pressure and finishing methods need to match the fabric being used.

Yes. You can send a tech pack, sketch, reference image, existing garment or sample. We review the measurements, construction and fabric requirements before developing the pattern. If some information is missing, we can identify what needs to be confirmed before the first sample.
We can work with linen and different linen-blend fabrics, depending on the required composition, weight, texture and price point. If you have not selected the fabric yet, we can source options for sampling so you can compare how the material behaves in the actual dress.
Shrinkage needs to be considered before bulk cutting rather than after the garments are finished. Where the fabric requires pre-shrinking, it can be treated before cutting. During development, we also consider the fabric’s behavior when confirming the production measurements.
Our usual MOQ starts from 50–100 pieces per style/color. For a new brand, this can make it easier to test a design before increasing the order quantity. Fabric availability, custom colors, special trims and other requirements may affect the final production arrangement.
Sample development usually takes 3–7 days after the design information and necessary materials are confirmed. The first sample may still require fit revisions. If the neckline, length, waist, skirt volume or construction changes, the additional revision time depends on the amount of pattern adjustment needed.
Yes. You can add woven labels, printed labels, size and care labels, hangtags, barcodes and customized packaging to your order. You can provide your own branding files and packaging specifications, and these details can be coordinated with the garment production.
