Our Knit Dress Manufacturing Capabilities
Xiuyu Apparel has been making dresses since 2007. For knit dress orders, our pattern team and sample room develop the pattern and sample around the selected fabric, measurements and construction details.
Pattern making, sampling, cutting, sewing, finishing and inspection are carried out in-house.
Our production setup includes:
- 5,000㎡ factory
- 750+ production workers
- 500+ sewing machines
- 5 automatic cutting lines
- A sample room with 15 pattern makers and 35 sample sewers
- Customers in 40+ countries
Knit Dress Production & Customization
Two knit dresses may look similar in a photo, yet fit differently once the fabric and pattern are matched. A ribbed bodycon dress needs enough stretch to fit the body without losing its shape, while a lightweight jersey maxi needs to hang evenly without twisting along the side seams.
During pattern development and sampling, we focus on the details that can change the fit or finished measurements:
- Fabric composition, weight, stretch and recovery
- Finished measurements and fit
- Neckline, armhole, sleeve and hem construction
- Shrinkage and dimensional stability
- Opacity and lining requirements
- Color consistency and print placement, where applicable
- Seam construction and finishing
The first sample helps identify fit or construction problems. If a fitted dress pulls across the body, the neckline stretches out, or the length changes after washing, we can review the pattern, fabric specification or sewing method before approving the PP sample.

Knit Dress Fabrics We Work With
Fabric selection affects fit, comfort, appearance, production cost and the way a knit dress behaves after washing or wearing. The most suitable option depends on the design rather than fiber composition alone.
Jersey Knit
Jersey is a common choice for relaxed T-shirt dresses, soft midi dresses and lightweight maxi styles. A lighter jersey can drape loosely, while a heavier or more elastic fabric may sit closer to the body. Recovery matters most when the dress needs to retain a fitted shape after wear.
Rib Knit
Rib width and recovery influence how the dress fits across the bust, waist and hips. The pattern should account for the selected rib fabric’s stretch instead of relying on standard body measurements alone.
Polyester-Spandex Blends
For fitted styles, compare the fabric’s weight, surface finish and recovery. These properties help determine whether the dress will maintain its shape without feeling too restrictive.
Rayon or Viscose Blends
For maxi styles, review the fabric’s drape and dimensional stability. Both can affect the finished length and how the dress falls on the body.
Other Knit Fabrics
If you have a particular fabric in mind, send us its composition, weight or a physical swatch. If you have not chosen a material yet, share the reference design and target price so suitable options can be reviewed.

Low MOQ Knit Dress Manufacturing
Our standard MOQ is 50–100 pieces per style/color. Small orders are often easier to arrange when the design uses an available fabric. Custom dyeing, special knit structures or fabric mill minimums may require a higher quantity.
- Fabric availability and mill MOQ
- Number of colors and custom dyeing requirements
- Knit structure and fabric specifications
- Special trims or embellishments
- Size breakdown and private label requirements

Private Label Knit Dress Manufacturing
Your knit dress order can include the branding and packaging details required for your business.
Available options may include:
- Woven brand labels
- Size labels and care labels
- Hangtags and barcode stickers
- Custom polybags
- Carton markings
- Folding and packing instructions
- Boxes or other agreed packaging
Please include label artwork, dimensions, placement and packing instructions in your order details. Finalizing these requirements early helps prevent relabeling or repacking after the garments are finished.
What Affects the Cost of a Custom Knit Dress?
The main cost drivers are fabric price, material consumption and the sewing operations required for the design. A simple jersey dress and a fitted ribbed dress may use similar amounts of fabric but involve different pattern and construction requirements.
A basic jersey T-shirt dress may require fewer sewing operations and less finishing. A fitted ribbed dress, a double-layer bodycon style or a knit midi with shaped panels and long sleeves will generally involve different fabric requirements and more detailed fit adjustments.
Fabric choice also affects the quote. Cotton jersey, viscose jersey, rib knit and ponte knit vary in price, weight and stretch. These differences can change fabric consumption and the construction needed for the finished dress.
If shrinkage or fabric spirality is a concern, include the required checks in the development plan and confirm any related costs in the quotation.

How Your Knit Dress Moves From Design to Bulk Production
1. Design Review
Send your tech pack, sketch, reference photo, existing garment or fabric swatch. Our team checks the design information and flags missing measurements, unclear construction details or other points that need your confirmation.
2. Fabric Review
We assess fabric weight, usable width, stretch, recovery, color and hand feel against the design. Shrinkage checks can be arranged where the material or garment requires them.
3. Pattern Development
The pattern is developed around the selected fabric, required measurements and intended fit. A reference photo provides visual guidance, but it does not replace the measurements and construction details needed to make the garment.
4. Sample Development
The sample room makes the first sample for you to assess the proportions, fit, fabric drape and construction.
5. Fit Correction & PP Sample Approval
For fit corrections, send measurements, marked-up photos or notes identifying the areas that need adjustment. This gives the pattern team clearer instructions for the next sample.
After approval, the PP sample serves as the reference for bulk production.
6. Bulk Cutting & Sewing
Once the fabric and PP sample are approved, bulk cutting follows the confirmed pattern and fabric specifications. During sewing, in-line QC checks workmanship and measurements so problems can be addressed on the production line.
7. Final Inspection & Packing
Final inspection covers garment measurements, workmanship, appearance and the required labels. Packing instructions and carton markings are checked before shipment.

Common Production Issues When Developing Knit Dresses
The Dress Loses Its Shape After Wearing
A fitted knit dress can bag out at the knees, elbows or waist when the fabric does not recover well after stretching. This is particularly relevant to bodycon and ribbed styles, where the fabric is expected to return to its intended shape after wear.
The Dress Shrinks or Changes Shape After Washing
Some knit fabrics shrink or skew after washing, which can affect garment length and overall fit. Where wash testing is required, use the results to assess the finished measurements before bulk cutting.
The Neckline or Armholes Lose Their Shape
Necklines and armholes can stretch out during sewing, particularly when the fabric has high elasticity or the edge finishing is unsuitable. The first sample helps reveal whether these areas lie flat and hold their intended shape.
The Fabric Looks Different in the Finished Dress
A small swatch may not reveal how the fabric will fall across a full-length dress. Reviewing the fabric in a sample garment gives a clearer picture of its drape, weight and surface appearance.
Bulk Production Does Not Match the Approved Sample
Bulk garments can differ from the approved sample if fabric batches, measurements or sewing methods change. Keep the approved sample, fabric details and measurement tolerances on record so the production team can refer to the same standards.
Quality Control for Knit Dress Production
Knit dress QC covers fabric condition, garment measurements and sewing quality at different stages of production.
Fabric inspection
Before cutting, check the fabric for visible defects, shade variation, usable width and general condition. Stretch, shrinkage and dimensional stability should also be reviewed where required by the material or design.
Sample and measurement approval
Confirm the finished measurements, neckline, armholes, sleeves, hem and overall fit against the approved sample. Any unresolved fit or construction issues should be addressed before bulk production.
In-line inspection
Check seam quality, garment shape and measurement consistency during sewing. For stretch styles, pay particular attention to seams and edges that may become wavy or distorted.
Final inspection
Compare finished garments with the approved sample and order specifications. Check measurements, workmanship, appearance, labels and packing details before shipment.
Inspection points should reflect the garment being produced. A fitted ribbed dress, for example, needs different fit and stretch checks from a loose jersey dress.

Here is how a dress moves through our factory, from incoming fabric to finished packing.

 Fabric Warehouse
When fabric arrives, the quantity, color, fabric type and batch information are checked before production.
↓

Fabric Inspection
Before cutting, the fabric is checked for visible defects, shade differences, width and general condition.
↓

Fabric Pre-shrinking
Where required, fabric is pre-shrunk before cutting according to the material and finished garment requirements.
↓

Automatic Cutting
After the pattern and marker are approved, fabric is spread and cut according to the required specifications. Knit fabric needs careful handling during spreading, as stretching the material can affect the cut panels and finished measurements.
↓

Sewing Workshop
The cut panels are sewn according to the approved sample and construction specifications. For knit dresses, seam stretch, neckline shape, sleeve openings and hem finish need to suit the fabric so the garment can move without the seams or edges losing their intended shape.
↓

In-line Inspection
QC checks garments while they are still on the sewing line. If a measurement or construction problem is found, it can be corrected before the whole order reaches the finishing stage.
↓

Final Pressing
After sewing, garments are pressed and finished according to the fabric and care requirements. The finished dress is checked for shape, length and appearance, since pressing and finishing can affect how some knit fabrics sit on the body.
↓

Final Inspection
Finished garments are compared with the approved sample and production specifications. Measurements, workmanship, appearance, labels, closures and finishing are checked before packing.
↓

Garment Packing
After final inspection, the dresses are folded, packed and labeled according to your requirements. Carton quantities and markings are checked before shipment.

Cutting Room & Fabric warehouse

As a custom dress manufacturer, we handle the main production steps in-house, from pattern making and sampling through cutting, sewing, finishing, and final inspection. Our team works from your tech pack, sample, sketch, or reference and checks the details before the style moves into bulk production.
Keeping these stages with one production team makes it easier to deal with pattern changes, sample revisions, and construction issues before cutting starts. We can also arrange screen printing and custom embroidery when these details are part of the design.
