Custom Backless Dress Manufacturing for Your Brands
We develop backless dresses from tech packs, sketches, reference garments or product ideas.
Before sampling, we confirm the back opening, neckline, fabric, straps, lining, closure and key measurements. If some details are still open, we can review the construction with you first.
Backless designs often need small pattern adjustments that are difficult to see from a drawing alone. The position of the straps, the tension at the waist and the stretch of the fabric can all change the way the back opening sits on the finished garment.
Those points are worked out on the sample before the production pattern is released.
Our custom manufacturing services include:
- OEM backless dress manufacturing
- ODM product development
- Private label production
- Fabric sourcing
- Pattern development
- Sample making
- Size grading
- Custom colors and prints
- Embroidery, sequins and other embellishment
- Custom labels and hangtags

Backless Dress Construction Details
A backless dress is not controlled by the back opening alone. The neckline, straps, fabric, lining and closure all affect how the garment sits on the body.
Back Opening
Back openings can be developed in V-back, U-back, scoop, square and other custom shapes.
Depth matters more than it may appear on the sketch. As the opening gets deeper, there is less fabric supporting the upper back.
When the sample is fitted, we look at whether the opening stays where it was designed to sit instead of shifting upward, pulling sideways or opening too much during movement.
Straps and Tie-Backs
Backless dresses can use fixed straps, adjustable straps, crossed straps or tie-back constructions.
We check strap width, finished length and attachment position against the fabric and garment weight. For tie-back styles, the finished tie length and attachment points also need to be confirmed.
On lightweight or slippery fabrics, even a small change in strap position can affect how the back opening sits after fitting.
Back Neckline
The front neckline and back opening are fitted together because changing one can affect the balance of the upper body.
This is more noticeable on fitted backless dresses, especially when the front neckline is deep or the back opening extends close to the waist.
Internal Support
Not every backless dress needs the same internal structure.
Support can be built with:
- Bust cups
- Elastic
- Lining
- Internal panels
- Boning
- Waist stays
- Reinforced attachment points
The final construction depends on the fabric and how much support the dress needs. Some styles need cups or elastic, while others can stay simple with the right pattern, lining and seam reinforcement.
Closures
Closure options include invisible zippers, side zippers, hooks, ties and other constructions.
For lightweight satin and similar fabrics, zipper installation needs careful control because uneven tension can create visible waves along the seam.
Popular Backless Dress Styles We Can Customize
The production details change with the length and construction of the dress. A mini, bodycon or maxi backless dress will not be fitted and checked in exactly the same way.
The back can remain clean and minimal, or include straps, ties, ruching, draping, cut-outs and other details.
Catalogue from Xiuyu Apparel

Backless Mini Dress
Backless mini dresses are common in partywear, nightlife and resort collections. With a shorter hem, construction problems are harder to hide, so the back opening, straps and overall fit need to be right before bulk production.

Backless Bodycon Dress
With bodycon styles, fabric recovery and finished measurements are closely related. At fitting, we look for pulling around the waist and hips and adjust the pattern or seam position when the garment is not sitting correctly.

Backless Midi Dress
A midi length gives more coverage through the front and skirt while keeping the open back as the main feature.
Satin and silk give the dress a fluid drape. Chiffon, crepe and stretch fabrics create different results in terms of movement, fit and recovery.

Backless Maxi Dress
For long backless dresses, the weight of the skirt can affect the upper part of the garment. A heavier skirt may pull against the open back, so we check the length, fabric drape and back construction together when fitting the sample.

Backless Evening Dress
Evening styles may combine satin, lace, draping, beading, gathers or other details around the open back.
Beading, gathers and other details can affect the fabric tension and back-edge finish. We check these points on the sample before releasing the production pattern.

Backless Slip Dress
The slip construction is relatively simple, but fabric choice and strap placement still have a direct effect on fit.
Spaghetti straps, adjustable straps, cowl necklines, bias cutting and lace details can all be developed around an open-back design.

Backless Halter Dress
Halter backless dresses rely heavily on the neckline and straps for support.
During fitting, we pay particular attention to strap width, tie placement, neckline depth and the amount of back exposure. Hardware or tie details also need to be secure without making the neckline uncomfortable.

Satin Backless Dress
Satin gives a backless dress a smooth surface and fluid drape, but it also shows puckering, pressing marks and uneven tension easily. The sample is checked around the back opening and seams before the style moves into bulk production.
Factory Certifications
Our factory holds BSCI, GOTS, ISO 9001 and OEKO-TEX certifications. The applicable certification depends on the product, fabric and production requirements, so we confirm the relevant documents when discussing an order.

Quality Control for Backless Dresses
Small construction problems can be very noticeable on a backless dress.
A strap that is slightly uneven, an exposed lining edge, a twisted back opening or puckering around a seam can change the appearance of the finished garment.
Our checks include:
- Back opening dimensions
- Strap length and position
- Bust and waist measurements
- Seam appearance
- Puckering
- Stitch consistency
- Lining exposure
- Fabric defects
- Hem balance
- Pressing and finishing
For satin, silk and other fabrics that show marks easily, fabric handling and pressing receive extra attention from production through final inspection.

How to Start Your Backless Dress Order
Send whatever development information you already have.
A tech pack is useful, but a sketch, reference photo, existing garment or basic product concept is enough to start the discussion.
For a backless style, the back opening depth, neckline, strap construction, intended fit and fabric are the main points to confirm before sampling. Our pattern team uses these details when preparing the first sample.
The production flow is usually:
Quotation → Pattern Development → Sample → Fit Correction → PP Sample → Bulk Production → Final Inspection → Packing
If the collection is still being developed, the construction can be reviewed before every measurement is finalized.

What We Confirm Before the Production Pattern
Before the production pattern is released, the approved sample is checked against the agreed specifications.
Key points include:
- Back opening depth and shape
- Strap position and finished length
- Bust and waist measurements
- Lining and facing
- Closure position
- Fabric stretch and recovery
- Finished garment measurements
- Size grading
Any fitting corrections are marked on the sample before the pattern is released for bulk production.

Inside Our Backless Dress Manufacturing Factory
Below are photos from our production workshop, including fabric preparation, cutting, sewing, inspection and packing.
Inside Our Manufacturing Workshop

 Fabric Warehouse
Fabric rolls are labeled and recorded when they arrive. Batch information is kept with the material records so the correct fabric can be matched to each order.
↓

Fabric Inspection
Satin, silk and other smooth fabrics need extra checking because even small marks can remain visible on the finished garment.
↓

Fabric Pre-shrinking
After fabric inspection, selected fabrics go through a pre-shrinking process before cutting. Pre-shrinking helps control fabric shrinkage before cutting and keeps finished measurements more consistent across the order.
↓

Automatic Cutting
Pattern pieces are cut by size and production requirement after the fabric is approved for cutting. This keeps the pieces consistent across the order and helps control fabric usage on multi-panel styles.
↓

Bulk production Sewing
Sewing operators work from the approved sample and production specifications, with construction checked as the order moves through the line.
↓

In-line Inspection
QC checks the garment as it moves through production, including stitching, measurements and construction. Problems found on the line can then be corrected before the finished garments reach final inspection.
↓

In-line Pressing
Pressing is adjusted according to the fabric and garment construction, especially around seams, hems and shaped areas.
↓

Final Pressing
Before packing, finished garments are pressed to smooth seams and shape key areas before final checking.
↓

Final Inspection
Before shipment, finished garments are checked for measurements, stitching, labels, packing and quantity by style, color and size.
↓

Garment Packing
Finished garments are folded and packed according to each order’s requirements. Labels, tags, barcodes and packaging details are checked before cartons are sealed.
↓

Finished Products
Finished garments are separated by style, color and size before cartons are closed, so the packing list can be checked against the actual shipment.

Cutting Room & Fabric warehouse

As a custom dress manufacturer, we handle the main production steps in-house, from pattern making and sampling through cutting, sewing, finishing, and final inspection. Our team works from your tech pack, sample, sketch, or reference and checks the details before the style moves into bulk production.
Keeping these stages with one production team makes it easier to deal with pattern changes, sample revisions, and construction issues before cutting starts. We can also arrange screen printing and custom embroidery when these details are part of the design.

More Backless Dress Styles Available For OEM & ODM Production

Silk Backless Dress
Silk fabrics can behave quite differently from one another. Weight, weave, and finishing all affect the result. We prefer testing the selected fabric on the actual pattern before approving the back shape for bulk production.

Chiffon Backless Dress
Chiffon is often used for flowing backless styles, particularly when layered skirts are involved. Because the fabric can be sheer, lining placement matters around the open back and needs to follow the exposed edge cleanly.

Mesh Backless Dress
Mesh can add coverage without closing the back completely. Its stretch and recovery affect how the opening sits, while the edge finish and attachment method need to be settled during sample development.

Sequin Backless Dress
Sequins require extra attention around the seams and exposed edges. Needle choice, seam allowance, and sewing speed can all be affected by the embellishment, particularly around narrow straps and the back opening.

Ruched Backless Dress
Ruching changes how fabric sits across the body. During development, we determine the gathering amount and placement, then check recovery on stretch fabrics so the ruching does not distort the back opening.

Velvet Backless Dress
Velvet is suitable for evening and occasion styles, but the pile direction must stay consistent. Cutting, seam handling, and pressing are controlled carefully because poor handling can leave visible changes in the surface.

Open-back styles need more than simple grading from one base size. The back opening, strap position, bust coverage and waist relationship can change as the size increases. We review these areas during pattern development so the opening does not become disproportionately large or small across the size range.
A backless dress sample usually takes around 3–7 days once we have the design details, measurements, and fabric confirmed. Styles with unusual back construction, ties, cut-outs, or special finishing may need a little more time during pattern making and fitting.
Satin and silk work well for fluid slip and evening styles, while stretch jersey is useful for fitted silhouettes. Chiffon and mesh can create lighter or layered effects. You should choose the fabric based on drape, weight, stretch, recovery, support and target cost rather than appearance alone.
Yes. You can provide your own measurements instead of using a standard size chart. We develop the base pattern from the approved specifications and grade it for the required sizes. If your brand has unusual proportions, detailed bust, waist, hip and length measurements are especially useful during the first sample.
Yes. You can include woven or printed brand labels, size and care labels, hangtags, barcodes, polybags and cartons in the production specification. Providing these details before bulk production allows the required materials to be prepared alongside the garments rather than added as an afterthought.
For custom backless dresses, our MOQ is usually 50–100 pieces per style and color. If you are testing a new design, we can discuss the quantity based on fabric availability, construction, and the number of colors you need. Smaller trial orders may also be possible for some styles.
Yes. A sketch, reference image, existing garment or basic product idea is enough to start the discussion. If the reference does not show measurements or internal construction, we can clarify those points before making the pattern. This is often more practical for startups that are still building their first tech pack.
